Description
Quatech's DSP-200/300 is a PC-Card 2.1 compliant Type-II PCMCIA adapter which add two fully independent asynchronous RS-422 serial interfaces (RS-485 for DSP-300) to the host computer. Like all Quatech serial interfaces, the DSP-200/300 is implemented with 16550 UARTs which provide 16 byte transmit and receive FIFOs, making the card ideal for use in multitasking environments and for use with applications involving high data rates.
The card's two serial ports may be configured at either the standard COM port I/O address locations or in a 16-byte continuous I/O address block. The DSP-200/300 may be configured at any one interrupt level. An interrupt status register is provided for determining which serial port generated the interrupt. The user may select Full Duplex/Half Duplex options with RTS and DTR as driver enable options. A RTS-CTS Modem Control handshake may also be selected.
All necessary software is included to install and configure the cards for use with DOS/Windows 3.x, Windows 95, and OS/2 (an optional communications driver may also be required for OS/2). However, under Windows environments, only point to point communications are supported, not multi-drop networks and half-duplex options.
Suggested Applications
• Long Distance Serial Links: Up to 4000 feet (RS-422/RS-485) • Low Cost Multi-drop Networks (up to 32 on RS-485) • Factory Automation • Process Control • Multi-drop data collection • Portable computer applications
