Geist’s Basic PDUs offers reliable power distribution to the cabinet to help manage power capacity and increase functionality. Get instant power usage feedback by adding a local display to avoid overloads and costly downtime when moving critical equipment.

Overview

Geist offers a wide variety of electrical options ranging from 15A to 120A in both NEMA and IEC configurations.  Select the PDU finder to view Geist’s extensive selection of rack PDUs.

Basic Upgradeable PDU

The Geist Upgradeable power strips give data center managers the flexibility to install the intelligence they require today with the option to upgrade technology as needs evolve.

To establish this extraordinary upgrade path, our engineers took Geist’s robust PDU design and incorporated an Interchangeable Monitoring Device (IMD). Geist’s rugged power strips last for years and with the new IMD users can install the latest monitoring and technology without replacing a perfectly good power strip. The hot-swappable IMD can be changed-out in a few simple steps without interrupting power to critical servers.

Upgrade Ready

Should your facility not be ready for any power monitoring, but is on the future development plan, then start with the basic upgradeable unit. No IMD is included with the device, but the technology is included within the power strip. Install the technology you need today with the ability to upgrade as your needs evolve.

Hot-Swappable Units

Add, remove, or switch Interchangeable Monitoring Device (IMD) without interrupting power to critical servers.

High Temperature Grade

60°C working ambient variants for high temperature environments.

Low Profile Breakers

Geist’s low profile breakers reduce the PDU depth by over 40% compared to traditional breakers. The slimmer design protects against electrical overloads and allows the PDUs to be easily installed in data center cabinets with limited space. Geist offers low profile breakers as a standard feature on select basic and intelligent PDU configurations. Customers may choose to incorporate the smaller breaker design on applicable custom PDU orders.

U-Lock Receptacles

u-Lock C13 and C19 locking receptacles Geist offers IEC C13 and C19 receptacles with an integrated locking feature built within the receptacle housing. The locking mechanism is protected against vibration and external elements that can easily dislodge external locking clips or guides. This self-contained locking mechanism works with any standard IEC plug. Locking receptacles come standard on some units and are available for custom orders.

For facilities already equipped with surge protection, Geist offers a non-surge PDU with a local display option.  Geist offers a wide variety of electrical options ranging from 15A to 120A in both NEMA and IEC configurations.

Non-Surge PDUs come in various lengths, from 19 inch (483mm) horizontals to 17-72 inch (432mm -1829mm) verticals. They are constructed with heavy-duty, powder-coated steel housings so they're durable and long-lasting.

Surge

Surge PDU
Random voltage spikes cause irreparable damage to critical equipment. Geist’s Surge suppression power distribution units provide power to connected equipment, utilizing parallel circuitry, for when a surge or spike disables surge suppression.  The surge suppression technology will dissipate up to 720 Joules of energy for protection of line-neutral, line to ground and neutral to ground configurations.

Geist’s Surge PDUs are available with a local display option in a variety of 15A and 20A /120V NEMA configurations.  Surge PDUs come in various lengths, from 19 inch (483mm) horizontals to 17-72 inch (432mm – 1829mm) verticals. They are constructed with heavy-duty, powder-coated steel housings so they're durable and long-lasting.

Basic Transfer Switch

basic transfer switch pdu
Geist’s auto-transfer switch provides redundant power for single-corded IT equipment.  When it’s supporting legacy or specialized equipment that isn’t designed with a secondary/redundant power input, Geist’s ATS can help to ensure uptime by providing power to single-corded devices from separate input power sources.

The Geist Auto-Transfer Switch (ATS) allows you to automatically switch the load from the primary input to a secondary input source in the event of power loss. Co-location providers can often find single-corded equipment in their customer’s racks, but providing 100% uptime in these circumstances can be extremely difficult. By integrating a Geist ATS into the rack allows end-users the ability to change their single feed equipment into a dual feed with ease.

An ATS can help reduce potential downtime associated with single-corded IT equipment. For correct operation, Geist ATS units require the input feeds to be phase synchronized.

A1: Most Geist Basic PDUs have the option to have the on/off switch removed.  However, some basic PDUs utilize hydraulic-magnetic circuit breakers which can be manually shut off, therefore acting as a primary disconnect.  These breakers have a guard to help prevent accidental disconnects.

A2: Geist offers an option to have a switch cover installed on a basic PDU with an on/off switch.  This switch cover must be installed when the unit is manufactured.  Please contact Geist for a part number.

A3: All Geist PDUs have a 10 ft. (3m) standard cord length, but can be ordered with 2-15 ft. (.6-4.5m) cords.  Cords longer than 15 ft. (4.5m) are not available on standard units due to regulatory compliance limitations in North America. In the EU and other parts of the world longer lead lengths are available on request. Please contact Geist for exact part number configuration for your requested cord length.

A4: Yes, all Geist PDU products carry a UL and/or CE Listed mark. If you’re looking for countries outside North America and the EU then please contact Geist.

A5: For UL products, most 15A or 20A basic PDUs can be configured with or without a circuit breaker. For CE marked products, units up to and including 16A do not come with circuit breakers as standard. Please contact Geist to determine the correct part number to meet your needs.

A6: Geist basic PDUs are available with two local meter options.  The Power Meter option scrolls through Power Factor, Amps, Volts and Watts.  The Current Meter shows the current draw in Amps.

A7: Surge suppression technology helps to limit voltage spikes from potentially damaging the sensitive electronics in IT equipment, televisions, audio components and other devices.

A8: No, the Geist line of surge suppressed power strips do not contain any RFI/EMI filtering.

A9: Geist surge suppressed power strips provide 3-levels of protection: line to neutral, line to ground and neutral to ground.

A10: Geist surge suppressed power strips provide 3-levels of protection: line to neutral, line to ground and neutral to ground.

A11: No, Geist surge products require over current protection to meet regulatory requirements. This is accomplished with the use of a resettable circuit breaker.

A12: Geist does not offer standard surge units in 208V. Please contact Inside Sales at 800-432-3219 to discuss what custom options may be available.

A13: Geist does not currently offer any 3-phase product with surge suppression.

A14: No, the Geist Auto Transfer Switch input sources are not selectable.  The ‘A’ input should be connected to the primary power source, with the ‘B’ input being connected to the secondary source.

A15: No, the Power meter option must be selected at time of order.

A16: The Auto Transfer Switch has been designed with a life expectancy of 100,000 operations. Within a Data Center environment this would be considered a life time warranty for the switching system.

A17: Units without a local display have a lifetime warranty. Units with the local display have a 3 year warranty.

A18: The Power Meter displays the power being used by the connected equipment.

A19: The Auto Transfer Switch unit has LEDs on the front of the unit to show which source (A or B) is being used at the moment and what sources are available (A/B). With the local display option you get the ability to see either Volts/Amps/Watts or Power Factor when using the Power Meter, or Amps only when using the Current Meter option.

A20: Phase synchronization is the process by which two or more cyclic signals tend to oscillate with a repeating sequence of relative phase angles.

A21: If the input sources are not synchronized it could lead to damaging the relay causing the unit to fail. It could also lead to an upstream breaker sensing a fault condition and opening the circuit.

A22: No, the basic PDU is offered to provide an upgrade path. When you are ready to start monitoring you will need to add an Interchangeable Monitoring Device (IMD).

A23: Yes, the PDU power can remain on during the removal and/or installation of the Interchangeable Monitoring Device.
