New Kvaser white paper discusses ways to maximise CAN’s efficiency in next generation vehicles

By using a Virtual CAN Bus, we separate the control task from other tasks. The distributed embedded control system can be developed using standard CAN Controllers and transceivers in a traditional way with well proven tools.

Other tasks such as encryption, transmitter authentication, re-flashing, etc. can be developed by experts in these fields and carried out by using other protocols. With modern technology, the different tasks can run in parallel and simultaneously communicate on the same physical layer.

It is a great advantage to separate the control problems from other problems. The control problem can be solved once and for all by the control experts and other problems by experts in their respective technology fields.

Kvaser USBcan II HS/SWC

The Kvaser USBcan II HS/SWC is a two-channel CANbus (controller area network) interface for USB 1.1 and 2.0. One channel is configured for High Speed CAN (ISO 11898-2); the second channel configure for Single-Wire CAN (SAE J2411). A flexible way to connect your desktop or laptop to the CANbus.

 

Major Features

 

  • Two channel CAN bus interface through a standard USB interface.
  • One High Speed CAN channel (ISO 11898-2), and one Single Wire CAN channel (SAE J2411).
  • Supports 11 bit (CAN 2.0A) as well as 29 bit (CAN 2.0B) identifiers.
  • Native USB 1.1 support, forward compatible with USB 2.0 in full-speed mode (i.e. 12 Mbit/s).
  • Contains the powerful Mitsubishi M16C microcontroller, with two built-in CAN controllers.
  • Remote frames can be sent and received without restrictions.
  • Detect and generate error frames on the CAN bus.
  • Auto Transmit for placing messages on the bus at set intervals.
