Introduction
Simple configuration, easy programming and supported by major DA & C packages - these are just a few reasons to use Advantech's ADAM 4000 modules.
Each ADAM-4510 repeater lets you add 32 ADAM modules to the network or extend the network by another 4000 feet (1.2Km). You can connect up to 256 ADAM modules to a single RS-485 network.
You can use any high-level language with ASCII-based string functions (such as C, Pascal or BASIC) to communicate with ADAM modules or process their data. For example, the command and response for an analog input module would be: COMMAND: #5, RESPONSE: > 4.834. This command requests the data stored by the module with address 05 (Hex). The module responds with the value 4.834 V.
ADAM's built in checksum feature ensures data integrity by detecting communication errors. This feature adds two checksum characters to every command or response string that enable you to verify that the message received is exactly the same as the message sent.
The ADAM-4510 repeater amplifies, or boosts, existing RS-485 signals to enable them to cover long distances. It extends the communication distance by 4000 ft (1200 m) or extends the number of connected nodes by 32.
Easy-to-use menu-driven utility software make configuration and calibration a snap. Its terminal emulation program lets you easily read from and write to ADAM modules. Writing application programs with this software (GENIE 2.0) is simple, you can learn the basics in just a few minutes.

- The meanings of the LED color on ADAM-4510 are as follows:
- No data: Green
- Data transmitted from host: LED Off
- Data transmitted to host: Red
- Continuous communication: Orange and Blinking (Green Red Off)
- Q. The ADAM-4510 locks when the power source is switching from the AC line to a generator. Is there a fix?
- A. From our experience, the ADAM-4510 will lock if data collision happens to it. This means if the ADAM-4510 receives data from each end at the same time, it will lockup. When the power source is switching from the AC line to the generator, a lot of noise may be present on the data line and the ADAM-4510 may lockup. In order to solve it, we have provided an ehnanced firmware for the ADAM-4510 Rev. C1. If the revision number of your ADAM-4510 is C1, we can send a new firmware chip to you for updating. If not, you may need to change the ADAM-4510.
