Quatech Introduces Embedded
USB Serial Adapters for OEM / POS Markets

High performance board-level products for kiosks and other enclosures provide easily integrated reliable connectivity

Hudson, OH, February 17, 2005 - Quatech, a world-class manufacturer of device connectivity products, today announced a new line of embedded USB Serial Adapters, designed to seamlessly connect multiple serial peripherals via a single USB port. This new product line enables manufacturers and integrators to easily incorporate multiple serial interface devices such as keypads, displays, card readers, and printers into custom enclosures that lack native serial support without changing software written for serial port communications.

"We developed this line in response to strong customer demand for a robust, cost-efficient way to integrate multiple serial peripherals into kiosks and other POS enclosures," said Steve Runkel, Quatech's president and CEO. "The new products were designed around customer specifications and engineered to the exacting reliability and performance standards our customers expect from Quatech USB Serial adapters."

The QSU-100-EMB ($129 MSRP) provides 4 independent RS-232 serial ports that function exactly like a computer's native COM ports. The QSU-200/300-EMB ($149) is an equivalent adapter for RS-422/485 peripherals. The ESU-100-EMB ($269) and ESU-200/300-EMB ($299) provide 8 ports for RS-232 or RS-422/485 devices, respectively. All are USB port-powered, provide data rates up to 230.4 kpbs, and are compatible with Windows® 98, Me, NT, 2000, XP and Linux.

The small-footprint boards have built-in surge suppression on the serial ports, necessary for maximum reliability and robustness. Mounting holes allow easy installation into cabinets and kiosks. Also included is a USB cable that both transfers data and powers the boards from the USB bus.

Quatech also offers the industry's most complete line of fully-packaged USB Serial adapters in 1, 2, 4, 8 and 16-port configurations. Detailed information and specifications for these and all of Quatech's products is available online at www.interworldna.com.
