Notice
In September 2004 a patent lawsuit brought by Al Schumer and his company Digitizer Technology Company, LLC against Wacom & LCS/Telegraphics, was settled. There are a number of consequences that affect our industry. As a result of the settlement, the version of the Wintab driver that GTCO CalComp provides for our digitizer products will no longer be available as of October 8, 2004. This means that:
| ▪ |
We will no longer be able to ship the current TabletWorks drivers with the Roll-Up, Super L, AccuTab, DrawingBoard, SummaGrid, or SummaGraphics products. |
| ▪ |
We will no longer be able to provide replacement CDs to users who lose their CD or desire to upgrade their Operating System. |
| ▪ |
We will no longer host the drivers in our support section on our web site for free download, nor email them. |
We regret the difficulty these events have imposed. We do not believe the drivers infringe Mr. Schumer’s patents (US Patent Nos. 5,768,492 and 6,353,433), nonetheless, we are making the changes to drivers to avoid any questions or difficulties for our customers. (Existing End Users are covered under the settlement agreement).
If you need a driver which implements the functionality we are removing from our drivers, then you may want to contact Digitizer Technology Company. DTC provides the Virtual Tablet Interface to users at an additional charge. More information on pricing and licensing can be found at www.vtablet.com. It is unclear whether GTCO CalComp will be able to provide an OEM version of the Virtual Tablet Interface to customers in the future.
Our current tabletworks driver provides most of the functionality of the original driver however any application which uses menu commands from the surface of the digitizer will not work with our driver. Go to http://www.vtablet.com to obtain this driver.
